October 2024

So here we are into the “scary” month of October! Well,..not until the end of the month really. As we start to head towards the later part of the year, it’s always a busy time from now until December.

Rumoured this month we may see another Apple event (perhaps the last of the year?) with some updates to hardware - perhaps the M4 added to the iMac 24”, MacBook Pro range and possibly a newly designed M4 Mac mini. Time will tell!

So keep an eye out for hopefully more info later this month.

I hope everyone’s October goes well!

Apple announce updated MacBook Pro 14” and 16” with M4

To finish off their “3 days of events”, Apple have also now just updated the MacBook Pro 14” and 16” models with the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

Also gaining Thunderbolt 5 ports and on the entry level models also gaining an extra Thunderbolt 5 port (from 2 up to 3), improved Camera and removing Space Grey and adding Space Black to the range. Also all models now come with at least 16GB unified Memory on all models.

All models also now have the option of a nano-texture Display to help reduce glare and both displays have increased brightness levels.

You can read more about the new specs on Apple’s page here.

MacRumors also has some information about the release here.

And if you want to watch the 17 minute reveal, Apple have it on their YouTube page available to view here.

And in the last part of their announcement they also announced that all MacBook Air’s will now come with a minimum of 16GB Unified Memory as well (up from 8GB).

Apple announce redesigned Mac mini with M4

Following on from the iMac M4, Apple a day later announced the new Mac mini now with the M4 and M4 Pro chips in an all new smaller designed case.

It also gained Thunderbolt 5, two front facing USB-C ports, a better “airflow” thermal design and more.

All in a tiny footprint case. Super small! (And moved the power button underneath due to space constraint and design.)

You can read more about the new configurations on Apple’s page here.

MacRumors also has some more info about it here.

And you can watch the short 12 minute reveal on Apple’s YouTube page here.

Apple announce upgraded iMac 24” with M4 processor. Wireless Keyboard, Mouse and Trackpad now USB-C

As thought, Apple have just announced the M4 upgrade to the iMac 24”, also with an upgraded camera, an option for Nano-Texture Display (to help with brightness/glare). They also upgraded the Apple Wireless Magic Keyboard, Wireless Magic Mouse and Wireless Magic Trackpad from Lightning port charging to USB-C charging.

It also now comes in slightly brighter colours. And all models start with at least 16GB Memory!

You can read more about the new configurations on Apple’s page here.

And a bit more info on MacRumors page here.

You can also watch the short 10 minute reveal for the new iMac here.

Apple tease October event….

Apple have teased we may see some new products next week at the end of the month. According to rumours we should see the M4 announced for the iMac, Mac mini, and the MacBook Pro 14” and 16” models. So could be a busy week next week.

Also, we may see USB-C versions of the Apple Magic Keyboards, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.

Keep an eye on this page for more info once it’s available!

Have you considered if your computer stops working or could be down for quite a while?

If your computer crashes or is down for a long period time, or even if it’s going to be away for service work for a while, have you considered the down time this could cause to yourself, your work and/or business?

There is a way that an external drive can be set up beforehand where in these sort of circumstances you can still be up and running relatively easy - even if your computer has to go away for days to be repaired.

It’s a relatively cheap and easy process.

If you would like to find out more about how this can be set up for yourself or your business please feel free to drop me an email or call to discuss.

Be aware of “Fake webpages” advising you need to update.

So there is a bit of a rise on the number of webpages or fake links that will try to trick you into calling a number or clicking a link to “update” some piece of software.

I’ve written a page with a bit more info on it here
